PROPOSED PROJECT

The high school gym, originally built in 1956, is comparable in size to a modern middle school gym (8,500 SF) with a seating capacity of 600. A high school gym of appropriate size (12,000 SF) with seating for 1,000 was not included in the high school's 2016 renovation. This decision reflected the community's financial input and prioritization of needs. Since 2016, the demand for gym space to accommodate school and community programs has continued to grow. Many groups struggle to secure adequate gym time and often must practice late in the evening on school nights. Additionally, some high school and youth events cannot be hosted due to the gym's limited size.

The plan will provide:

  • Additional spaces for physical education

  • Competition gym with seating for 1,000

  • Increased gym availability and improved scheduling options for school and youth sport programs

  • Expansion of fitness facility with dedicated entrance and toilets

  • Repurposed space to expand the wrestling facility

  • Dedicated lobby and restrooms

  • Additional storage

  • School/community storm shelter for weather emergencies
